Sarah McGilvray's Pre-Race Rituals

1 min read

Nova's Sarah McGilvray shares her widsom on pre-race rituals, including wardrobe dilemmas and the best things to eat.

It’s the night before the big City to Surf run and rather than relaxing on the couch or stretching my muscles, I'm frantically trying on outfits for the big race. My dog just rolled his eyes at me (no, I didn't imagine it).

It's never a good idea to wear new active wear on a big run... it's important for your gear to be 'broken in' and super comfortable. I knew this... and then I spent the afternoon shopping up BIG. I mean - you can never have too many pairs of black leggings, right? Plus, surely these new ones will help me run faster... keep my mind clearer... and somehow make Heartbreak Hill less steep?

Wardrobe dilemma aside, I've been pretty good with my pre-race ritual. This week, I've been drinking plenty of water and eating heaps of fresh foods and good carbohydrates for energy. It's important to eat a light dinner the night before the run.

Macro Turmeric Chicken & Black Barley Soup is a fantastic choice if you’re looking for something tasty and filling, that isn’t going to sit heavy in your stomach when you’re trying to run (or walk) the 14km!

It’s the last big decision I’ll have to make before the run begins... and it’s a lot easier than picking which leggings are going to magically get me to Bondi.

Thank you Woolworths and the Macro team for helping me get to City2Surf this year. It’s been a lot of fun and I can’t wait to get out there tomorrow.

I’ll see you all on the road!
