6 Theories About Taylor Swift's New Album Which Might Be Coming Sooner Than Expected
Are you ready for it?
So Taylor Swift has been very active on Instagram recently, and as any good Swiftie should know, she never does anything unintentionally…
Over the past couple days she has posted a photo of palm trees, herself sitting on a staircase, and her face inside a fence.
Sure, they might just be aesthetic Instagram photos with no meaning behind them, but Taylor Swift fans are convinced that new music is dropping very soon.
For starters, all the photos she has posted are heavily filtered with similar colour schemes, and if we learnt anything from her Reputation era, it’s that the girl loves a theme.
But looking at the photos individually, Swifties have a lot of ideas.
Look, some of these theories might be far-fetched, but Taylor is often very cryptic about her new music. In the lead up to her 2014 album 1989, she similarly posted a number of clues on social media, including elevator buttons and drawings of New York City, so this might not be as random as it seems.
We’ll let you make your own decisions about these theories…
She’s teasing a countdown to the weekend
The main theory that many fans agree on is that the Instagram photos are counting down to the release of her lead single this weekend. It’s important to note that the Taylor Swift calendar has specific dates marked with stamps or flowers, one of those being March 2nd.
It’s going to be a country/pop album
This theory regards the genre of her upcoming album, and could either mean that she is going to be releasing a country/pop fusion, or she is going to be releasing something completely different to anything she has done before.
She will be performing at Coachella
The placement of the palm trees may relate to the date she will release new music. Four palms, one palm and two palms, which is four-one-two or April 12. The first weekend of Coachella takes place on April 12th.
It will be released on Arbor Day (April 26th)
Another theory has to do with the stars in the palm tree image, which should be noted as a pre-existing filter from the app ColorStory. With 61 stars, Swifties think a single could be released on April 26th, which already has significance related to tree conservation. April 26th is also a Friday, which is typically the day of the week when musicians release new music.
The album's theme is 'mermaids'
Sure, it’s random, but let’s look at the facts. Taylor wore an Ariel-Inspired costume at her New Year’s Eve party, she wore a mermaid T-shirt at the end of the Reputation Netflix special, plus (this one is pretty random) The Little Mermaid was released November 13 1989, exactly one month before Taylor was born. Mind blown.
Her t-shirt choices are very important
Taylor’s t-shirt in the most recent Instagram photo features the forget-me-not flower, which blooms in April and is said to have “the virtue of ensuring that the wearer of the flower would never be forgotten by a lover".
She first wore the shirt in Australia, where she also posted a photo of herself and her mother playing Scrabble. Fans were quick to point out that the points on the visible tiles equal seven, which was assumed to be her teasing her upcoming 7th album.
Taylor’s next album will be the follow up to Reputation, which was released in 2017 and gained a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album this year.
She first acknowledged the end of the Reputation era when accepting the award for Best Pop/Rock Album at the 2018 American Music Awards.
“I always look at albums as chapters in my life, and to the fans, I’m so happy that you like this one,” Swift said in her acceptance speech.
“But I have to be really honest with you about something: I’m even more excited about the next chapter.”
