What new game did Aussie musical trio Tripod work on?
Original Songs by Tripod and Austin Wintory to be included in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
After the success of their smash hit collaboration This Gaming Life with the Melbourne Symphony Orchest ra, Aust ral ian ARIA winning comedy songsters Tripod and BAFTA-winning, Grammy-nominated composer Austin Wintory can't seem to face the prospect of a future without each other. The nerd love is strong with these ones; they have followed up This Gaming Life with another exciting collaboration on an even grander scale; Ubisoft's game Assassin's Creed Syndicate, out now.
Those playing at home will already have clocked Austin Wintory's recent announcement that he has been hard at work scoring the marquee game - after his stunning work on such marvellous games as Journey and The Banner Saga, the prospect of Wintory's unique voice being added to the Assassin's Creed universe is an exciting one indeed.
When Ubisoft pitched the idea to Austin that Assassin’s Creed Syndicate might include a series of original in-game songs that closely follow the events of the game narrative - Murder Ballads - in keeping with the setting of the game in the alleys of Dickensian London - Wintory knew just the songwriters to turn to.
Wintory describes Tripod as:
“…the only people with whom I could imagine collaborating on such a thing. The resulting songs imbue the game with so much personality.”
Tripod embraced the gig with relish:
"As fanatical gamers and professional songwriters you can't help but hear this kind of thing in other games and want to have a crack at it yourself. We couldn't be more gleeful about getting a chance to put our money where our mouth is on such a well-loved property."
Lydia Andrew, Audio Director for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate said,
“Tripod immediately embraced the concept of the murder ballads. Producing lyrics that perfectly capture the personalities of the characters involved. It's a very special moment when I'm in the night time city and I hear a murder ballad in a pub or a choir singing one on the streets.”
Austin Wintory and Tripod have received two music nominations at the 2015 Hollywood Music in Media Awards; for Original Score – Video Game: Austin Wintory - Assassin's Creed Syndicate (Ubisoft) and Song – Video Game: “Underground” - Tripod and Austin Wintory / Assassin's Creed Syndicate (Ubisoft).
