Horrific news out of Sydney's inner west overnight, with reports emerging that a 16-year-old boy was stabbed in what police are referring to as a “ferocious attack”.

The young teen was stabbed in the stomach and hand while in the carpark of a Woolworths store in Balmain. He was transported by ambulance to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He is currently in a critical condition.

The attack occurred at about 6:50pm on Thursday.

Inspector Gary Coffey spoke about the incident, stating that the “attacker and victim are not known to each other.”

“Police believe a man and woman, who aren’t known to the boy, might be able to assist with inquiries,” he continued.

“The male is of caucasian appearance, 182cm tall and with ginger hair. When he was last seen the man was wearing a red jacket.”
