Conor McGregor isn't as innocent as he seemed in wild UFC brawl

"Good knock. Looking forward to the rematch."

The biggest bombshell during the Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov match at UFC 229 on the weekend wasn't the crazy post-fight brawl that began when Nurmagomedov leapt out of the Octogon to target Mcgregor's cornerman, Dillon Danis.

No, the biggest bombshell was that McGregor may not be the innocent bystander as he initially seemed.

At first glance, it appeared that the Irish star was attacked by two of Nurmagomedov's entourage after the whole brawl kicked off.

But thanks to various fan videos filmed of the incident, you can see that McGregor actually threw the first punch after Nurmagomedov jumped out of the Octogon, striking the Russian's cousin Abubakar Nurmagomedov across the face with a left hook.

This initial strike from the Irish star soon led to him being attacked by two of Nurmagomedov's entourage.

After several moments of wild brawling from both McGregor and Nurmagomedov's camps, several people - including UFC president Dana White - piled into the Octogon in an attempt to restore some semblance of order. White later stated that "three of Khabib's guys" were arrested after the brawl and were on their way to jail.

In the aftermath of the fight and post-fight brawl, Nurmagomedov issued an apology to the Nevada State Athletic Commission in front of the media but continued pointing the finger at McGregor for his conduct by referencing the Irish star's past incidents, such as that time he attacked a bus.

As for McGregor, The Sun reports that he's refusing to press charges against the men who attacked him in the Octogon.

The Irish fighter has also kept relatively quiet about the fight, which is uncharacterisic of a man who has a reputation for throwing out more taunts and barbs than punches. However, he did share this simple tweet:

And an Instagram post with the caption: "I'll be back".

McGregor was defeated by Nurmagomedov in the fourth round via submission, something that's probably not going to go down well with the Irish fighter.

Given how much attention this fight received, you can almost be assured of a rematch at some point in the future.

Hopefully the next bout will involve less crazy brawling and more jokes about Mcgregor getting a boner during the weigh-in or something.
