BREAKING: Car ploughs into crowd in the United States
People were seen flying into the air.
Violence erupted on Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia as hundreds of white nationalists gathered in a brutal and violent clash with counter protesters.
It was assumed it was going to be a violent clash as it was the planned white nationalists ‘Take America Back Rally’ however authorities were not expecting this.
The governor declared a state of emergency as scenes broke out that had not been seen since 1944.
A car ploughed into the crowd killing one and injuring 19.
However, another two were killed in a helicopter crash with two police officers in the helicopter.
Another 15 were injured earlier during the protest.
Police had been at the scene to deal with the violent protest between far right groups and counter protesters.
There are fears the death toll will rise.
The protesters were heard chanting:
“Build the wall.”
It is said to be “the largest hate-gathering of its kind in decades in the United States," protesting to take down the Lee statue.
Police have caught up with the car and taken the driver into custody.
The scenes also included a torched rally which resulted in brawls and arrests.
A witness spoke to journalists at the scene:
“It was probably the scariest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.
“After that it was pandemonium.
“The car hit reverse and sped and everybody who was up the street in my direction started running.”
The President of the United States has been criticised for taking his time to make a comment.
He has now addressed the media:
“We condemn in this in the strongest possible terms.”
The situation has calmed down after 24 hours of violent conflict.
