BREAKING: Asbestos found in Sydney trains
More as we have it
Asbestos has been located in the drivers’ carriages of some Sydney trains.
It’s believed the tests were conducted between March and June this year at the Flemington & Hornsby maintenance centres.
In a memo, obtained by Channel 7 crime reporter Laura Banks, the Rail, Tram & Bus Union told its members:
“The locomotive division have been made aware of asbestos dust/particles being found in various C and K sets with the predominant location being in driver’s side Circuit Breaker panels.”
It goes on to say that the union has asked Sydney Trains CEO Howard Collins to update them on a number of related health and safety concerns.
“At the time of writing we believe Sydney Trains have indicated that the dust poses no issues due to it being contained… This response is wholly inadequate.”
