The former Idol star was found dead near her home on Monday morning.

Country singer Kate Cook, who rose to local prominence on the TV reality show Australian Idol, was found in bushland hear her home after being reported missing by concerned friends on Sunday evening.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious by police at this stage.

Kate featured on the 2009 season of the show, and made it into the top 6 on the series that Stan Walker eventually won.

Her co-stars and friends have reflected on their friend's life on social media.

Cook was upfront about her struggles when performing on the hit reality series, and the musical inspiration she took from her late mother, who tragically took her own life when Cook was a teenager.
