Armed Police Deployed After Reports Of Shooting In Christchurch Mosque
A man has reportedly opened fire at a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand.
New Zealand Police released a statement via Twitter reading:
"Police are currently responding to reports of shots fired in central Christchurch at around 1:40pm.Armed police have been deployed. Police urge anyone in central Christchurch to stay indoors and report any suspicious behaviour immediately to 111."
News.com.au report that there are as many as six people dead with 10 emergency service vehicles at the scene. There is also believed to be heavy police presence both on scene and at the hospital.
An eyewitness also told Stuff NZ he had seen at least four people lying on the ground and “blood everywhere”.
Police are warning people to stay indoors and to report any suspicious behaviour to 111. Schools are also currently in lockdown at the behest of Christchurch Police due to the "evolving situation."
Parents have been asked not to collect their children until police advise that the lockdown is over.
