“you just want your kids to grow up with good values”

John Legend and wife Chrissy Teigen are getting ready to welcome their little one into the world in the coming months. Now John Legend has opened up about becoming a father for the first time.

Speaking to E! Online about the possibility of having a girl John said, “I don’t think the idea that girls have to be protected from men and that girls can’t have their own sexual identity and freedom. I don’t like that idea so I don’t even want to think like that.”

“The idea that if it’s a girl, then we gotta put her in a cage, I don’t believe in that. You just want you kids to grow up with good values and respect themselves whether they’re a boy or a girl. They’ll probably make mistakes and hopefully they’ll learn from them.”

With the baby only a couple of months away, the singer was asked if the pair had chosen any names, “We have a new name everyday, we fall in love with it and then two days later we’re like no. They say sometimes you have to see the baby before you’re really sure.”

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend announced that they were expecting their first child last October. Chrissy announced the news with an adorable black and white photo of the couple grinning from ear to ear as John had his hand placed on her belly.

“John and I are so happy to announced that we are pregnant.” Chrissy wrote.

“As many of you know, we’ve been trying to have a baby for a while now. It hasn’t been easy, but we kept trying because we can’t wait to bring our first child into the world and grow our family.”

“We’re so excited it’s finally happening. Thank you for all your love and well wishes. I look forward to all the belly touching! Xx”

The model has previously spoken up about the couple’s heartbreaking struggle to conceive.

Chrissy told Tyra Banks, “I will say, honestly, John and I are having trouble. We would have kids five, six years ago if it had happened… But my gosh it’s been a process! So, anytime somebody ask me if I’m going to have kids, I’m like, ‘One day, you’re going to ask that to the wrong girl who is really struggling, and it’s going to be really hurtful to them.’ And I hate that. So I hate it. Stop asking me.”

We think that John and Chrissy are going to be amazing parents. We are so excited for them to welcome their little one into the world.
