J.J. Abrams says gay characters could soon be coming to Star Wars
Star Wars is catching up with the times! Gay characters could soon be introduced in future films.
To say that Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was a success is probably a bit of an understatement. Not only did it bank over $2(!) billion dollars worldwide, but it proved to be the most progressive Star Wars film yet as it gave the franchise its first female Jedi and first black lead.
Having broken new ground, director J.J. Abrams now sees a future for Star Wars where gay characters become part of the norm.
Speaking to The Daily Beast, Abrams says that:
“I would love it.To me, the fun of Star Wars is the glory of possibility. So it seems insanely narrow-minded and counterintuitive to say that there wouldn’t be a homosexual character in that world.”
Hey, we’re all for gay characters in Star Wars, but who’s to say that we haven’t already seen our first gay character in the franchise already?
Seriously, we think John Boyega’s Finn and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron would make an adorable couple!
