How the Bachelor runner-up knew she wasn’t Matty's pick before he told her
This makes so much sense.
Tonight’s finale of The Bachelor saw Matty Johnson finally able to declare his love for his chosen girl Laura Byrne. But it wouldn’t be a Bachie finale without a devastated runner-up and this season it was Elise Stacy. Unfortunately for the former Hockeyroos player, Matty was forced to tell her she wasn't 'The One'.
While it was pretty darn obvious what was about to happen when Matty awkwardly gave Elise a kiss on the cheek instead of the lips when he saw her, Elise said she knew even before that that she wasn’t his girl.
In an interview with TV Week published straight after the episode aired, she said:
"I could tell it wasn’t going to be me walking towards him. At this point you’re looking for any signs and I actually looked at the ground and I was walking on sand and I said to myself, ‘There are no footprints on this path,’ so no-one had walked it before and so I knew I was walking down for the first time.”
Shockingly, Elise also admitted she felt betrayed by Matty. According to her, he made her feel like things were a lot more real for both of them than they were from his end.
The episode, which took place in Thailand, saw both girls meet Matty’s mother and three brothers before spending their last day together with him. At the final ceremony, Matty let Elise down first before admitting his feelings to Laura.
"I've replayed this moment in my mind so many times, and it's really hard to get the right words out. I think about you every single day, the only way I can describe how I feel towards you is, Laura, I love you. I think you are so perfect."
We're not crying you're crying.
