Blake Lively slams "unrealistic beauty standards"
"There is never just one side"
Blake Lively has slammed the warped beauty standards that are created and perpetuated by Hollywood in a heartfelt new interview with Refinery29.
In the interview, the 29-year-old actor and mother of two emphasised that she strives to distinguish between "real life" and Hollywood - the latter of which she says is "very constructed".
"We have really unrealistic beauty standards and beauty norms. What you're seeing on red carpets and in magazines takes a lot of effort and a lot of people.
"People don't understand that it's all very constructed."
Lively said that she wants to make sure her own children - two-year-old James and six-month-old Ines - grow up knowing the difference between what's real and what's not.
"What little girls are seeing isn't what [celebrities] look like when they wake up in the morning - even though it's no less beautiful.
"There's this awareness of what they're going to be exposed to and what they grow up seeing. For me, it's important for my daughters to know that it's not real life. They're seeing me dressed up in all this hair and makeup, but they also see me without that."
"I want them to see both sides, because there is never just one side."
While we are 1000% sure Blake Lively looks exactly like the goddess she is even at 7 o'clock in the morning, this is an important message - and a reality that celebrities are increasingly willing to admit. Down-to-earth stars such as Blake Lively and Chrissy Teigen (who recently posted a series of adorable Snapchats of her drunk-ass self after the Grammys) are working to shatter the illusion of impossible beauty we've come to think of when we think of Hollywood.
It's an important message and we're extremely keen on y'all for sharing it.
