The 26-year-old told the crowd he was sorry for what he had done, and admitted he had a drinking problem.
"I'd like to unreservedly apologise to everyone for my actions over the last couple of days. My behaviour was unacceptable. I'm embarrassed and take full responsibility for my actions. I acknowledge I have a problem with alcohol and it is something I have to address."
The incriminating video, released the day after the public holiday, showed Mitchell wrecking havoc in a living room at a woman’s house. After forcing himself onto the homeowner who refused to grant him a kiss, the State Of Origin player sat down on her couch, began simulating sex with her Maltese dog and then peed himself.
It is unclear who filmed the clip, and as a result, the Australian public have been divided in their opinions about the incident. While some believe the athlete has a right to privacy at a house party, many are unconcerned with how the footage was leaked and are disgusted with his actions.
