Jessica Mauboy opens up about her battle with anxiety
We knew Jessica Mauboy had a terrible panic attack at the Melbourne Cup last year but now she's revealed that she is seeking help for anxiety.
It takes a lot of strength and courage for anyone to admit that they are going through something tough. Add being a celebrity, hundreds of thousands of fans and paparazzi to the picture and there’s a whole lot of added pressure.
When Jessica Mauboy was a no-show at the Melbourne Cup last year, the media attacked her, but behind-the-scenes she was suffering from a horrible panic attack, the result of anxiety disorder.
The Aria Award winning artist revealed to The Australian Woman's Weekly that she'd "never felt anything like that before" and decided to speak up and get help:
“It felt ridiculous going to see someone to talk about at first, but doing that was probably the best thing because I realised that what happened to me was real.I know now that if it ever happens again, I can’t turn away from it. I have to face it and try to deal with it, and talk to someone about it.””
She also spoke about how upset she was when she couldn't perform at the Melbourne Cup:
“It was also very disappointing because I didn’t want to let people down.”
