Hayden Panettiere candidly opens up about struggles with postpartum depression

Nashville and Heroes star Hayden Panettiere walked her first red carpet since seeking help for postpartum depression last year… now she wants everyone to know they are not alone.

You’ve got to give it to Hayden Panettiere, not only is she a celebrity that attracts a lot of media attention but she has the guts to do something pretty inspirational... Speak about something that is rarely spoken about.

The 26-year-old opened up last year about how she experienced post-natal depression after giving birth to her daughter in 2014.

The actress hit the red carpet at the Critics’ Choice Awards telling reporters she was "feeling great" after completing treatment. The Nashville star told eonline that she refuses to be silent about her battle with postpartum depression:

"It made my life better.

"I do feel and hope it's made other people's lives better and more of an understanding because postpartum depression was not something that I ever understood. You could never understand it unless you have a personal involvement with it.

"I didn't realize how much of a stigma it had about it," she said.

The young mum spoke about the journey to recovery:

"It's a long process and it's really interesting because part of therapy for me was really finding my true self and the ability to say no.

"[It's] so difficult, so difficult. On one hand they're telling you, you're teaching yourself to really just expose yourself and be real and be honest and be open and let those emotions flood through, and then on the other hand you're having to like keep it bottled up,” Hayden said.

"You're bound to make mistakes and you're bound, you have to find that balance, and I'm still trying to find that balance," she added.

Well said, Hayden. If you think you have post-natal depression, or know someone who has, please reach out and get the support you need.
