WATCH: This Australian university ad is going viral
This is the most moving ad you’ll ever see…
You might’ve seen this ad doing the rounds lately, and for a good reason.
The commercial is part of Western Sydney University’s recent makeover and name change from ‘University of Western Sydney.’ Among other ads in their ‘Stories of Unlimited’ campaign, the story of Deng Thiak Adut is by far the most moving.
The reason it has everyone talking is because it completely breaks the overused recipe of university ads that tend to focus on 'uni life' - people laughing, drinks at the bar, playing sport, sitting in lectures…
Instead, the ad focuses on a single person, a real person, and their journey of triumph over adversity.
Before I go on, take a second to watch it now. Then pull yourself together you blubbering mess, and keep reading.
It’s the last scene, when Deng looks back on his mother that gets me. That tied in with the dulcet tones of Jarryd James really brings on the waterworks.
(The name of that track by the way is Do You Remember.)
Deng now works as a lawyer in Bankstown, Sydney, supporting and providing legal advice for Sudanese refugees before they enter the court system.
Reddit user HuskyYT commented, mentioning a speech Deng made at his school about his moving story:
“This man did a talk at my school a few months ago. He was telling us his story about his experiences over there, and watching him, clearly trying to keep his composure telling us his tale, it was such a heartbreaking thing to watch.”
It’s emotional, moving, inspiring, and above all... real.
I don’t know who’s cutting onions in here but they need to stop ASAP.
What do you think?
